Site Location
Description
of location
The location under consideration should first of all be wind
- intensive during the whole year.
Usually this is guaranteed on coastal sites, on open land without
forests or high hills within a range of about 15 km and, of
course, on hill tops. Buildings, particulary housing, should
not be nearer than 2 km to the windfarm.
Please provide details of your proposed site:
Wind
intensity
The average wind intensity per annum should be around 6.0 m/s
(at hubheight), or better.
If wind intensity inforination is not available throughout the
year, we are prepared to arrange Ar the necessary measurement,
based on your order. Please provide details:
Required
site area
For a windfarm of 20 turbines, an area of about 1.0 km2 is needed.
Grid
connection
Overhead, or buried cables, over a great distance, are an expensive
undertaking. Please check and advise the distance to the nearest
electricity connection point (power or sub-station):
The
Electricity Corporation, your future customer
Before you begin detailed planning, contact the local Electricity
Supply Corporation (EC) and find out whether they are willing
to buy your generated power. If the answer is in the affirmative,
ask whether the high tension cable connection point (power or
sub-station) is able to carry the estimated input, for example
750 kW per turbine. If this is not the case, you will have to
negotiate the cost of upgrading with the EC. Please provide
details:
Infrastructure
It is necessary to consider that heavy loads have to be moved
to the proposed windfarm area. The road access must be prepared
to carry an axle load of approximately 12 tonnes. Please provide
